Week 6: Before and After

I know it has been a while since I did a home improvement post, but I wanted the next one to be worth the wait! This post will show you the before and after pictures of the inside of the house! I would love to take pictures to show you the outside, but since it is sleeting/raining/snowing here right now I think I will hold off till Spring actually gets here.

When we bought our house, it needed a lot of work.  It was a foreclosure that had the copper pipes stolen, A/C stolen, bad roof, and lot of TLC needed to say the least.  Before we even thought about moving in, we put a new roof on, re-stained the hardwood floors, re-piped the whole house, new A/C, new water heater, and a new dishwasher.  We painted the whole house (trim and cabinets in the kitchen included) and put new hardware on all the doors and sockets.

Living Room:
In the living room, we tore down the nasty wallpaper trim, removed the huge mirror, and re-faced the fireplace. The bookshelves we got from some friends and all the furniture came from the Navy Exchange! I am in the process of figuring out my spring mantel, so right now it's pretty bare!

Dining Room:
Again, we took down the wall paper trim and added in a light fixture to make the room brigher. The kitchen table we bought from our friends who I babysit for.  The chairs were extra from my parents house and the carpet as well.  The china cabinet came from Allena's grandmother and you can read more about that here!

Kitchen:
I think the kitchen is the most obvious transformation.  We put new hardware on all the freshly painted cabinets.  We installed a new range and dishwasher and replaced the nasty back splash with beautiful segway tiles!  We also closed off that air vent fan and covered it with tile!
We got our stainless steel fridge on Craiglist for $200! The table came from my grandmothers house and the microwave in the corner was another $25 Craiglist purchase!

Master Bedroom:
All of the beautiful furniture came from the Navy Exchange and the bedding is from Pottery Barn. The rung was given to use from a co-worker that she got from Ikea!
Master Bath:
Didn't do too much in the bathrooms besides fresh paint and some hard cleaning!
Master Closet:
Clearly we don't have a problem filling up this huge closet! Before we moved it, it was clear that they knocked down a wall between two closets to make one big master closet.  You can get to this closet from our bedroom as well as the hallway.
Guest Bath:
Bedroom 1:
Right now, this is the most set up of our two extra rooms.  Still have a long way to go here.
Bedroom 2:

Putting in all the work for our house has been so rewarding. I love to see all our hard work pay off and actually have a home that we can call our own.  Even though D.J. just let for Spring Training, I feel so special to have him share this home with me! We closed on our house the Monday after our wedding weekend and plan to continue to make so many memories in this house as a family!

  2. Wow everything looks great! What kind of paint did you use to paint the cabinets? I've been thinking about painting ours, and am not sure what paint to buy for them.

  5. Love the improvements you have made! I'm your newest follower from Believe in the Sparks :) In our house, part of the trim is the original dark wood, and part of it is white. I'm debating painting it all white...was it hard to paint everything white? I have some doors that I would have to do too...

  8. Great post Cayte! I'm in LOVE with your blog, it's so beautifully done! Have you ever considered getting a skypod roof light installed? They're great for adding extra light to brighten up rooms! Deffo a new follower of your blog! :) www.elglaze.co.uk

  9. I had to do just about the same amount of work when I moved into my new home. It is an old one so, I had to get a lot of repairs for the plumbing and almost everything else. What I did is I had an expert come in and take a look at some of the intricate parts that I couldn’t reach by myself, and so far, the repairs are paying off.
